About Us
The HOUR Exchange is a local currency system that aims to promote economic justice, ecological sustainability, community building, and diversity. Unlike the centralized economic system, with HOURS we aim to build a healthy local economy that nourishes community and nature.
The HOUR Exchange is a non-profit organization providing education and tools to promote ecologically sustainable, community-based economics. Our community network allows members to trade goods and services with local currency. We organize community events to bring people together, connecting a diverse array of neighbors across traditional boundaries through quarterly potlucks, educational events and activism.
The HOUR gives people in the community with unused time and talent an opportunity to earn more spending power, expands trade of locally produced goods and services, and keeps wealth local by connecting business to a broader range of community. Doing business locally often turns into doing business with friends.
Every time we use HOURS, we:
~Strengthen our commitment to the people who live here.
~Add to our local spending power.
~Reduce the need to transport goods and for excess packaging.
~Help set a standard for a living wage.
